About Palolem
Palolem is the most developed beach in the south and still quieter than anything comparable in the north. The bay is sheltered at both ends, which makes it one of the few places where swimming is usually calm.
It is a two-hour drive from the northern beaches, which is why it rewards a night rather than a day trip. Driving down and back in a day costs you the best hours at both ends.
The bay is about a mile of pale sand, curved between two headlands and lined with palms. Beach huts and shacks go up after the monsoon and come down again before the rains.
Boats leave from the beach for the smaller coves nearby and for dolphin-spotting trips in the morning.

- Kayaking to the rocky island at the northern end

- Sunset over the bay from the southern end
Good to know
Roughly two hours from north Goa by road. Worth a night rather than a day trip.
- Agree the boat fare before you set off.
- Canacona railway station is a short auto ride away.
- Swim between the flags, and stay out of the water when red flags are up.
