About Anjuna & Assagao
Anjuna's flea market runs on Wednesdays through the season and is now more souvenir than counterculture, but the setting above the rocks is still worth an hour.
Assagao, ten minutes inland, is where much of Goa's cooking has moved. It is residential, the restaurants are small, and most of them want a booking.
Anjuna is one of the old villages of Bardez; its parish church of St Michael was founded in 1595. Travellers made it famous in the 1960s, and the flea market grew out of that era.
Assagao, a few kilometres inland towards Mapusa, is known as a village of flowers. Many of Goa's best-regarded restaurants now sit in its old houses, surrounded by hills and paddy.

The market runs roughly October to April. Assagao is year-round; book a table.
