About Dudhsagar Falls

Private vehicles cannot reach the falls. Access is by forest-department jeep from Kulem, booked on the day, and the track is rough enough that the ride is part of the experience rather than a transfer.

The other way to see it is from the Vasco–Londa railway line, which crosses the face of the falls. That view costs nothing and needs no permit, but you do not choose when the train slows.

The name means ‘sea of milk’. At about 310 metres it is among India's tallest waterfalls, falling in four tiers on the Mahadayi river in dense forest on the Goa–Karnataka border, roughly 60 km from Panjim.

The Belagavi–Vasco railway line crosses the face of the falls on a stone bridge, which is where the best-known photographs are taken.

Good to know

The jeep safari is suspended during the monsoon and usually reopens around October. When the falls are fullest, they are also closed.

Wear shoes with grip: the rocks near the pool are wet and slippery.
Swimming is often restricted; do what the guards say.
Walking along the railway track is prohibited and dangerous.
Jeep seats are shared, so small groups are combined with others.
