About the Insta360 X5 Camera

The Insta360 X5 is a 360-degree action camera. It has two lenses that record everything around you at once, and you choose the framing afterwards in the Insta360 app. It records 360° video at up to 8K at 30 fps using two 1/1.28-inch sensors.

It suits people who do not want to worry about pointing a camera: scooter rides, boat trips, beach days and group moments. When used on a selfie stick, the stick can be hidden in the final video, so the shot looks as if it was filmed from the air.

Insta360 rates the body waterproof to 15 m. Mounts, spare batteries and a case are included. Rinse off salt water and sand after the beach.

Tips for using it in Goa

  • The lenses stick out on both sides. Always put the camera back in its case, and never set it down lens-first on sand or rocks.
  • Rinse off salt water and sand in fresh water after the beach, then dry it before charging.
  • Hold a selfie stick straight in line with the camera, so it disappears from the final video.
  • Swap to a spare battery before a long ride or boat trip, rather than halfway through.
  • You can decide the framing later in the Insta360 app, so just keep the camera level and record.

Common questions

What is a 360° camera?

It records in every direction at once. You choose where the view points afterwards in the Insta360 app, and export a normal flat video to share.

Can I take it in the sea?

Insta360 rates the X5 body waterproof to 15 m (IP68). Rinse it in fresh water afterwards.

How long does the battery last?

Insta360 quotes up to 185 minutes at 5.7K in Endurance mode. Recording at 8K uses more power. Spare batteries are included.

Why can't I see the selfie stick in the video?

The stick sits in the blind spot between the two lenses, so the software can hide it when you hold it in line with the camera.

Can I go deeper than 15 m?

Not with the camera on its own. Insta360 rates it to 15 m by itself and to 60 m only inside its separate Dive Case. Ask the host whether a dive case is available before planning a dive.

How quickly does it charge?

Insta360 quotes about 20 minutes to 80% and 35 minutes to 100% with a 30 W USB-C PD charger, measured with the camera switched off. A slower charger takes longer.
